Have your heating system serviced by one of Georges Qualified Techs, to be sure your system is running at its peak efficiency and to make sure it is not producing Carbon Monoxide in your home.

Change your furnace filter before the heating season, (this is done by George's Tech during your tune up) and midway through the heating season, if you need help, let George do it!

Change batteries in your thermostats if they are equipped with batteries. Most will flash a warning if necessary, although its best to do it annually.

Change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and vacuum dust out of the detector to prevent false alarms. If you don't have detectors, you should. We will install both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, if you need help changing the batteries we can make it part of your fall service agreement.

A good time to review your fire escape plans with your family.

Thoroughly clean your dryer vent from end to end, and internal ducts in the dryer that can not be reached during day to day operation. George also provides this service. This is a top fire hazard, go to www.dryerventwizard.com to read about the importance of a clean dryer vent.

Have your fireplace or coal burners cleaned by a qualified chimney sweep. George does your gas or oil chimney during your fall service. Although we do not get involved with wood or coal, we recommend Chimney Werks Ect. a member of the National Chimney Sweep Guild. Call 964-1910 to get on the list early!

Disconnect your hose from all outside faucets before the the first frost. This will prevent a flooded basement the first time you use the hose next spring.

Turn water off to any non anti freeze type outside faucets before the first frost. In most cases they should also be drained and the outside faucet left in the open position. George can install an anti freeze faucet in most cases, then all you do is disconnect the hose.

If your property requires a Heat Tape or an Electric Heater to prevent pipes from freezing, make sure they are inspected for safety, tested and plugged in for proper operation. Don't wait until they are frozen to do this. George can Help you with this or find a permanent solution to prevent the problem. FOR YOUR SAFETY, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO THAW FROZEN PIPES WITH A TORCH OR OPEN FLAME DO NOT STORE LAWN MOWERS OR GASOLINE IN THE BASEMENT OR NEAR FURNACES AND WATER HEATERS

Clean your rain gutters and down spouts after the leaves have fallen to prevent basement flooding during the spring and summer. If you have under ground rain conduits make sure they are open, if not George has the equipment to solve your problem.

Clean the coil on the back or under your refrigerator with a vacuum and brush, it will operate much more efficiently and prevent compressor problems extending the life of the fridge.

Clean the filter on your kitchen exhaust fan, replace when necessary.

Vacuum your bathroom exhaust fans so they can properly exhaust steam from the shower that can cause mildew or mold to grow on walls and ceiling.

Make sure your computer surge protectors are working before the summer lightning and storms roll in.

Look for damage on the outside of your home by ice and snow or the winter winds. Pay special attention to the roof shingles, rain gutters, and fascia behind the gutters.
