Doctors and Public Health officials would be
the first to tell you that poor air quality in
the home is a growing problem that all of
us should be aware of. It’s a great concern of
ours too. We urge you to have your home
checked for air quality. The more we reduce
pollutants in the home, the lower the risk of poor
heath related to breathing unhealthy air. If you
suffer from sinus, allergy, or breathing problems,
ask us how we can help you improve your home
air quality. You can also start by doing some little
things on your own:
- Avoid smoking indoors.
- Houseplants are recommended. They clear
the air of more than 300 types of organic
compounds.
- When you dust, use a damp rag.
- Vacuums with HEPA filters are recommended.
- If you use cleansers and aerosols, make sure
the room is well ventilated first.
- Get in the habit of removing shoes at the door.
This helps you avoid tracking in dirt and
pollens.
- Wash bedding and clothing in hot water and
dry with high heat.
- Check humidity levels (or ask us to do it for
you). Elevated humidity (60% or higher) can
lead to problems with mold, corrosion, decay
or other moisture related deterioration.
- Look for clues that you may have home
ventilation problems. This could show up as
condensation on windows or walls, smelly or
stuffy air, or dirt and dust on your heating and
air conditioning vents. These are all good
reasons to call us for a consultation.
